W4 Custom Designs, LLC is in business to create custom, innovative designs in not only architecture, industrial design, but also in expanding my knowledge and skills regarding computer generated graphics and basic website construction.

A Brief History

 

I have always had the desire to draw and color since I was a small child.  Always wanting to pick up paper and crayons or pencils to draw anything and everything from airplanes to spaceships, my path wasn’t clear to me yet.  Upon moving from my home state of Arkansas to Texas my parents and I stopped in Temple where I took a course in architectural drafting.  That was all it took.

 

Shortly afterwards I began to attended and graduated from Sam Houston State University with a degree in Industrial Technology and a minor in Interior Design.  Shortly thereafter I joined the team at Israel Pena & Associates as a CAD Manager.  Over the course of the following years I absorbed the teachings of my peers regarding the Hill Country designs as well as spatial balance and residential construction.  Towards the end of my employment the desire to take the skills and knowledge moved me to make some changes so I took on a new career:  teaching.

 

I started teaching at Ronald Reagan High School in 1999 but have continued designing new homes or remodeling existing homes.  Projects varied from small additions to medium sized homes with the odd larger footprint visiting my computer screen.  It wasn’t real steady business as all my work was word of mouth.

 

Then in 2010 a district initiative led me into the world of digital graphics.  I became the web page coordinator and quickly learned Dreamweaver.  I began teaching a digital graphics class where I picked up Photoshop and Flash.  Later I discovered Illustrator and quickly took my skills to the next level. 

 

A coworker came to me and shared that she had a friend that needed a graphic for his blog.  Three preliminaries later and we had our finished product.  It may be small but when I visit his website I am proud of what I’d done.

 

While waiting for a breakfast tacos at a local eatery I chanced an encounter with a fellow and we began talking architecture and construction.  As it turned out he was just starting his construction business and was in need of a designer.  I bit and sent him some samples.  He bit and a new chapter was launched.  We've just completed our first plan with construction starting Summer 2015 with a second coming in the Fall.

 

Upon recommendations from my father in-law, a former contractor in New Mexico,  I stepped up and formally launched W4 Custom Designs, LLC. and away we go into the future.

 

Expectations

 

I bring to the table creativity, vision, and dedication.  I love designing, be it new homes, remodels, graphics, or simple websites.  Being creative keeps my mind busy and fluid.  Problem solving was ingrained in me as a child and in my opinion there are no problems really, just puzzles to be solved.
